Ouest Lausannois

Two cantonal roads in a densifying suburban area

The Ouest Lausannois is the first site of our cycle and offers us an opportunity to consider the road of cantonal roads in suburban areas affected by intense population growth and urban densification. There, we will work along two emblematic cantonal roads that structure mobility, public space, and daily life in the region. The first, l’Avenue du Tir-Fédérale, is a major urban axis undergoing significant transformation as the district densifies and redefines its interfaces between housing, mobility, and public amenities. The second, the Route Cantonale 1 (Route du Lac), is the oldest cantonal road in Switzerland: la Route principale 1, a historic route linking Geneva to Kreuzlingen and traversing the Swiss Plateau from southwest to northeast, passing through Geneva, Lausanne, Bern, Aarau, Zurich, and St. Gallen.
